[Class 7 (ii).] Means for locking in position a valve seat insert 11 comprises slitting the insert at 16, so that, when the insert is forced into a cavity 12, in which it is a force-fit, a part 15 springs into a recess previously formed in the cavity ; the recess has sharp edges and may be discontinuous. A brass packing may be placed in the slit during the insertion to prevent deformation of the insert.
