408,170. Whetstones. BEHRMANNING CORPORATION, Troy, New York, U.S.A. Oct. 30, 1933, No. 30122. Convention date, May 6. [Class 60.] In a sharpening apparatus comprising a plurality of whetstones mounted in a casing, with means for fixing them selectively in the position of use, and for supplying them with oil, the stones 17 are secured to a frame with a shaft 19 having end extensions provided with parts 24, 25 adapted to engage corresponding surfaces on the casing so as to hold one stone in position of use and at least one other stone immersed in an oil bath in the casing, the engaging means on the shaft and casing being separable to enable the frame to be turned. In the construction shown three stones are employed, and are secured, by means of spring clips 29 engaging their ends, to triangular end members 18 of the frame. The projecting ends of the central shaft 19 of the frame carry manipulating handles 20, 21 and the positioning devices 24, 25, which are in the form of triangular flanges. The edges of the flange 24 are of V or rounded form, and rest selectively in a transverse V-groove 26 formed in the base of the casing, so preventing longitudinal movement of the assembly. The flange 25 fits between inclined surfaces 27, 28, Fig. 4, on the casing, so preventing transverse and rotational movement. The assembly may be lifted and turned to bring another stone to the position of use. The base of the casing is provided with a channel 13 for catching oil which overflows and a sheet 16 of rubber, cork, or other anti-slip material on the underside.
