Abstract

407,924. Electric radiators. TAYLOR, J. H., TAYLOR, G. P., TAYLOR, A., and TAYLOR, K. M., 14, Queen's Road, Huddersfield. June 15, 1932, No. 16887. [Class 39 (iii).] Buildings, vehicles, ships, or other structures are electrically heated by cables of a cross-sectional area of .001 square inch which, if embedded in the structure, may have a maximum loading of 1¢ watts per foot run, and if otherwise mounted may have a loading of 3 watts per foot. The maximum loading for cables of larger sizes will be directly proportional to their surface areas. In the case of cables insulated by vulcanised indiarubber the temperature of the metallic conductor should not exceed 100‹ F. ; paper or fibre insulation enables 130‹ F. to be reached. The cables may have protective sheathing. The heating effect of a circuit may be varied by altering the length and specific resistance of the conductors. Examples are given of the calculation involved in providing circuits for heating the various rooms and passages of a house. The heating effect may be varied by supplying the system from a transformer with several tappings or by the use of series parallel switches. The cables may be mounted in clips 16 and 17 on plates 13 provided with flanges 14 and covered by a plate 11 having clips 12 engaging with the flanges 14. Alternatively blocks 21 and 22 may be attached to the walls or ceiling of a room and covered by a plate 26, washers 23 on blocks 22 holding the cables in place. This construction may be varied by forming the blocks on a moulded plate attached to the ceiling or walls. If the cables are of tape formation, they may be secured to the required surface by adhesive and covered by an embossed plate or simply by wall paper. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 272,166, [Class 39 (iii)].
