Abstract

407,543. Alarm clocks. CLORIUS, A. V., 3A, Frisersvej, Charlottenlund, Denmark, and BLIN, H., 119, Rue du cherche Midi, Paris. April 12, 1933, No. 10972. [Class 139.] A mechanical alarm clock for giving signals of short duration and having alarm trip members (24) adjustable by hand to act at the predetermined time is characterized in that the alarm train is first temporarily released by a trip member (24) moving a release arm (20), is then immediately relocked (12, 13) and is again released to give the short signal when the trip member has been moved by the continued drive of the clockwork, free from the release arm. The trip 24, Fig. 1, is adjustable on a dial 25 driven by the hour mechanism and is adapted as this dial rotates counter-clockwise, to depress an arm 20 about pivot 19. This arm has a plate 23 with a lug 26 which normally arrests a pin 10 on a wheel 9 which is driven, through wheels 8, 5 and ratchet 7, 1, from the spring 3. When release arm 20 is first depressed, pin 10 is no longer blocked by lug 26 but moves counterclockwise through a cutaway portion of plate 23. Almost immediately, however, the train is relocked since arm 20 rocks an anchor 13 into engagement with a wheel 12 rigid with a wheel 11 gearing with the wheel 9. The continued rotation of dial 25 wipes trip member 24 free from arm 20 which is returned upwards by spring 21. Wheel 9 and pin 10 rotate for the remainder of the revolution until pin 10 is again blocked by lug 26. During this time the rotation of wheel 12 oscillates the anchor 13 so that the bell 17 is struck by the hammer 16, 15 rigid with anchor 13. If desired there may be two (as shown) or more pins 10 on wheel 9, or the pins 10 may be on wheel 12. In modifications, Figs. 5 and 7, the release arm 20 is replaced by a bar 30 sliding vertically in a guide and trip 24 is replaced by a pin (or pins) 28 passing through a desired hole (29, Fig. 9) in the rotating dial plate 25. When a pin 28 meets the inclined face 30<a>, Fig. 5, rod 30 is depressed and its arm 30b depresses a member 34 about pivot 33. Pin 10 on wheel 12 thereby escapes past lug 32 and meets lug 35 on member 34. When pin 28 is again free of rod 30 the latter moves up, member 34 is spring-returned upwards and pin 10 escapes under lug 35 whereby wheel 12 rotates to actuate the alarm hammer until the next pin 10 meets lug 32. In the construction of Fig. 7 the parts 32, 35 are directly connected to bar 30 by rod 38. The alarm trip member may clip over the edge of the moving dial 25 as at 40, Fig. 9. Various methods are illustrated for holding the member 40 in position after it has been adjusted to release the alarm mechanism at the desired time 46 is a fixed indicating hand. Alternatively the signal disc 25 may rotate behind a fixed time dial. If desired the alarm trip members are adjusted upon a fixed ring and the clock itself rotates around a fixed hour shaft and carries the release member which coacts with the trip members. The final release of the alarm mechanism may be determined by a time-precision device as set out in Specification 409,199. Driving mechanism, spring.-Figs. 9 and 10. The alarm spring winding shaft carries a roller 56, from which an endless band 58 passes to a roller 57. This band is marked so as to show, at any moment, how many more signals the alarm spring is capable of giving before rewinding is necessary. Alternatively a rack may be moved by a gear wheel or the winding shaft.
