[Class 20 (iii).] Relates to roll-up lattice shutters or grilles of the kind described in Specification 193,323, [Class 20 (iii)], wherein a plurality of elements, each comprising a circular portion 1, Figs. 2 and 9, a bar 5 with end lugs 4, and a split tubular member 2, are hingedly connected together. According to the invention, the bar 5 and portion 1 are interconnected by a web or webs 6 so arranged that the bar can slide freely through the split tubular portions of adjacent units when the lugs thereon are in engagement with the splits in the tubular portion. In the form shown, the rigidity of the extended shutter is increased by enlarging the ends 7 of the members 2, and by making the distance between the inner edges c, d of the lugs 4 just sufficient to accommodate the members 2. The edges of the shutter are completed by a chain-like structure composed of alternating elements 13, 20, which are connected together and to other units by bars 11 and members 12 of similar construction to the members 5 and 2, respectively. The sides of the central recess 8 in the member 2 through which a pair of lugs 4 project, are parallel in the construction illustrated ; in a modification, the edges thereof and the sides of the lugs are tapered so that the units are firmly held together when the shutter is extended, but are eased somewhat when the shutter is coiled. In a further modification, the grille is strengthened at intervals by units 14, Fig. 10, having non-split tubular portions 15 through which passes a rod 16 secured to the sides of the shutter by nuts 17. Each unit 14 is provided with either a cross-bar 5 or a split member 2, for connection to adjacent units in the manner described above.
