Abstract

407,342. Warping and beaming yarns; warp beams. SPOWAGE, A. E., Portland Works, Portland Road, Nottingham. Sept. 14, 1932, No. 25606. [Classes 142 (ii) and 142 (iv).] Stop-motions ; yarns, measuring ; creels.- A yarn warping or beaming machine is provided with means for effecting stoppage electrically after a predetermined length of yarn has been wound or on breakage or undue slackening of the yarns, the completion of an electric circuit in either contingency energizing a pair of magnets 29, Fig. 8, and thereby rocking levers 31, 33 to release a spring actuated belt shifting rod 35 or 42. The yarns are drawn from supplies 2, Fig. 1, rotatably mounted on a movable creel 1, passed around a measuring drum 4, over guiding and clearing devices 7, 8, 10 and wound on a sectional beam 9 that is driven in any suitable way. The shaft of the measuring drum 4 is operatively connected to an indicating device 52 comprising two or more movable fingers and a corresponding number of stationary dials, the closing of the electric circuit to effect stoppage being dependent upon the fingers reaching a predetermined position on their respective scales simultaneously. To effect stoppage of the machine on yarn breakage a series of pivoted detectors 25, Fig. 4, are provided adjacent the measuring roller, a fallen dropper engaging a contact bar 28 to which an oscillating movement may be imparted by a cam or eccentric on the measuring roller shaft. Alternatively the detectors may be accommodated by and reciprocated with a part moving in unison with a reciprocating sley through which the yarns are passed. The yarns passing to the beam may be threaded through a plurality of perforated sley bars mounted on an adjustable support adjacent the beam 9 and on completion of each beam section a sley bar may be removed and attached to the beam to retain the threads in position. Each yarn supply bobbin 2 may be mounted on ball or anti-friction bearings and the yarn therefrom passed between two spring tensioning fingers. Cloth and warp beams.-The flanges of the sectional beam comprise two discs 14, Figs. 12 and 13 secured by rivets to opposite sides of a half-circular boss 15 which can be clamped to the beam 9 by bolts passing through a loosely mounted boss 18, additional security being obtained by passing a screw 18<a> through the upper boss into a hole in the beam. A distance piece 20 may be mounted between and secured to the discs.
