Abstract

406,220. Moulding confectionery. HENKEL, A., 69, Holland Park, London. Aug. 24, 1933, No. 23554. [Class 87 (ii).] A strand of sweetmeat, soap or other plastic substance is severed into pieces and the pieces moulded in a machine comprising a conduit 12 through which the strand is fed to semicylindrical moulds on the periphery of a drum 3 complementary pivoted mould parts 6 being moved progressively from open into closed position by a cam 11 to cut the strand into cylindrical portions. The ends of these portions are compressed and shaped by dies which reciprocate within the moulds, parallel to the drum axis. The mould parts 6 have extensions 10 which engage a cam 11a and are thus turned to lie in a plane parallel to the plane of the drum the moulded pieces passing from the moulds into a delivery shoot 13. The pivots of the mould parts 6, Fig. 3, are mounted in radial slots in a wheel 4 which rotates with the drum, so that a slight radial movement of the mould parts 6 is permitted. The lateral plungers 5 may have a slot 8 in their shanks so that they may be positively reciprocated by a cam rail 7, or the plungers may be positively moved inwards by a cam 7a and retracted by springs 9.
