Abstract

Glucosides of therapeutic value are obtained by eliminating the acetyl groups present in glucosides derived from digitalis lanata by treatment with alkaline agents, e.g. alkali metal hydroxides and carbonates, alkaline earth metal hydroxides and carbonates or disodium phosphate, in presence of water. Among the glucosides mentioned as starting materials are those prepared according to Specifications 370,344 and 405,890. Organic solvents miscible with water may be present during the disacetylation process, e.g. methanol, ethanol, acetone, dioxane, pyridine and glycol monomethylether. The alkaline agent is preferably used in equivalent quantity and temperatures of 10--40 DEG C. employed. Examples are given, and the properties of the products described.
