Abstract

405,792. Aeronautical photography. BARR & STROUD, Ltd., and FRENCH, J. W., Caxton Street, Anniesland, Glasgow. Jan. 18, 1933, No. 1631. [Class 98 (i).] Camera apparatus for aeronautical photography is provided with two photographic systems, one for photographing from a suitable height in the air a central reference area, and the other for simultaneously photographing a peripheral zone surrounding the reference area and separated therefrom by a zone which is not photographed. The camera A is supported by a balloon B connected to a ship C by a wire 2. When the wire is substantially vertical the camera is freely suspended from the balloon so that the axis of the lens 5, which photographs the reference area 7-8 including the ship, is vertical. The peripheral zone 12-13 is photographed by an objective 9 which may be a complete ring or a number of objectives and prisms to form a sequence of images embracing the whole of the peripheral zone. When the wire 2 is considerably inclined, Fig. 4, the camera system may comprise two units, the reference area unit 14 being carried by a tube 16 loosely surrounding the wire so that its axis is parallel to the wire, and the peripheral zone unit 15 being freely suspended. The whole camera system, being capable of free rotation about the wire 2, hangs in the vertical plane containing the wire. A case 22 contains clockwork timing mechanism and mechanical or electrical means for simultaneously actuating the shutters of the two units. Means mav be provided on the ship for measuring the inclination and bearing of the wire relatively to the ship. Specification 405,612 is referred to.
