J. ; 609, West Lake Street, Chicago, U.S.A.) May 5, 1932, No. 13029. Convention date, May 7, 1931. [Class 37.] Tuning-apparatus for wireless receivers comprises one or more variable inductance units each having a fixed coil and a longitudinally movable core of finely divided magnetic particles, the coil and core being completely enclosed in an electrical screen and provided with external tuning control means. The coils 4 which have a ratio of length to diameter of 1.5 to 1, or 2 to 1, and have an inductance variation from maximum to minimum of about 8 to 1, are carried by telescoping shield parts 7, each coil sliding in an annular slot 2 in its core 1. The core parts are secured to the shield sections 6. The units are mounted on a base-plate 8 and are adjusted by rack-and-pinion 16, 17, a pointer 19 being associated with a scale 20 which has a pin-and-slot connection with one of the units. The units are independently adjustable upon the base-plate for matched tuning. In another construction, four units are combined in a frame-work, and the adjustment is effected by belt-and-pulley gear. Specification 403,368 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes a number of diagrams of impedance networks, tuned oscillator and amplifier circuits. These diagrams do not appear in the Specification as accepted.
