Abstract

404,393. Reversal development of photographic films. UNIVERSAL PICTURES CORPORATION, Universal City, California, U.S.A. Aug. 18, 1932, No. 23205. Convention date, Oct. 16, 1931. [Class 98 (ii).] Relates to a device for producing positive photographic films, of the kind in which the film is drawn from a magazine through solutions in a series of elongated troughs and is then fed to another magazine, the operation being uninterrupted and continuous. According to the invention, some of the troughs have more than one compartment, and means are provided for directing the film from the compartment of one trough to the compartment of another trough before the film is returned by pulleys to the second compartment of the first trough. In the form shown in sectional elevation in Fig. 1 and diagrammatically in Fig. 2, three troughs are arranged one above the other. The exposed film from a magazine 17 enters the compartment 6 containing a developing solution, being guided therein by pulleys 23-26 and a pulley system 27 comprising three pulleys 28-30. Thence the film is directed by pulleys through compartments 8, 13, 12 and 16 containing stop, washing, reversing and washing solutions respectively. The film is then led under fogging lamps 18 and is then directed by pulleys through compartments 5, 11 and 15 containing clearing, developing and washing solutions. On leaving the compartment 15 the film passes between air jets 19, 20 which remove all surplus moisture, and is then passed in a circuitous path through a drying chamber 21, through which it is drawn by a take-up reel or magazine 22. In a modification, each trough is provided with several co-axial pulleys, so that a number of films can be treated simultaneously. Specification 360,082 is referred to.
