[Class 81 (ii).] A therapeutic heating device of the type having a rigid casing enclosing part of the body and provided with an electric heating element has, on the inward side of the heater, a heattransmitting wall and, or the outer side, heatinsulating means, on the outward side of which is a chamber communicating with the atmosphere to provide a circulation of cooling air. A frame comprising arched members 1, 2 connected by members 3-6 is covered with a thin partition 7, preferably of sheet copper, covered on both sides by sheets 9, for example of asbestos. Insulated heating elements 10 are coiled as shown and secured by staples 12 to asbestos straps 11. A selective control switch 14 is fitted. Over the heater are positioned a mica sheet 15, a number of sheets 15<1> preferably of corrugated asbestos, and sheets 16 and 19 of material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite." Sheets of bright metal foil may be interposed to reflect back the heat. The sheet 19, which may have a white or bright inner face, is supported by a block 21 and encloses an air chamber 23 formed with air inlets 22, 25 and outlets 24. Hoods 26 are secured to the ends by spring wires sprung into recesses 28 and embrace the arm or leg of a patient or may be used to close one end. The device is of greater height and width at one end than at the other. An opening 29 accommodates a thermometer 30 covered by a transparent sheet 31. In a modification, Figs. 10 and 11, for application to the body, a covered metal plate 36, insulating layers, and air jacket 42 with inlets 43 and outlets 44 are provided as above. A portion 35 of a side 34 is detachable, and hinged wire brackets 45 are adapted to support the device clear of the patient's body when desired.
