[Class 106 (iii).] In a machine for issuing tickets, vouchers, &c. connected in the form of a strip, a single lever in one movement sets the apparatus in accordance with the number required and during the spring- actuated return movement, feeds out and cuts off the required number. The strip 23 is fed up from a magazine in the base of the casing 1 over a feeding drum 22 past a cutter 33, and out through the spring 52, the drum having pins which engage perforations in the strip. The number of tickets to be issued is dialled by the operator inserting a finger in the appropriate hole in the sector 8 forming part of the lever 7 and turning the lever until his finger engages the fixed bracket 10. This movement of the lever 7 rotates a spindle 6 together with levers 12 and 13 a projection 30 on the lever 12 being thereby disengaged from a recess in the drums 22. The lever 13 engages a pin 41 on a two armed lever 38, 39 freely mounted on the shaft 6, thereby disengaging the arm 38 from the pin 27 or the side of the drum 22 and turning the lever through a definite angle while the pawl 40 clicks over the ratchet wheel 16 which is fixed to the toothed wheel 15. The rotation of the shaft 6 tensions the spiral springs 42, 43. During the return movement, the lever 39 and pawl 41 rotate the ratchet wheel 16 and toothed wheel 15 which, through gearing 17, 18, 19, 20, turns the drum 22 through the required angle, when the fixed stop 44 stops further movement of the lever while the end of the lever arm 38 stops the drum. The shaft 6 continues its rotation until the lever 12 engages a recess in the drum and also engages an arm 31 which actuates the cutting-off knife 33. The lever 13 is formed as a toothed sector which is connected by one-way gearing to a governor 37 so that the speed of its return movement is limited. The toothed wheel 15 operates a counter through a spindle 45 and a clutch 48 which is disconnected when the strip 23 is finished by a connection 49 to fingers 26 which are then free to engage recesses in the drums. The arm 39 of the lever 38, 39 may be dispensed with, the arm 38 then carrying the pawl 40 and the position of the stop 44 being altered to cooperate with it.
