Abstract
403,366. Coin-freed article and money delivering apparatus. VELAZQUEZ, F., 17, Rue du Sommerard, Paris. March 10, 1932, No. 7169. Addition to 365,733 and 391,172. [Classes 27 and 116.] Coin action, electric connection, and multiplecoin, with change-giving.-The apparatus set forth in parent Specification 365,733 as modified by or improved upon by Specification 391,172, is modified to render it capable of totalising the values of several coins so that as an alternative to the introduction of a single coin in respect of a given transaction, an appropriate number of smaller coins may be introduced. The apparatus comprises an arm 315, Fig. 1, which is movable by an external knob 317 in accordance with the kind of goods selected, about a cylinder 310 of insulating material which is automatically rotated according to the value of the money introduced. One half of the surface of the cylinder starting from a neutral line N, Figs. 1, 1a, is provided with studs 313 arranged on equidistant generatrices of the cylinder on metallic rings 312 equal in number to, and each corresponding to one of, the coinejecting devices, the arrangement being such that the studs on successive generatrices correspond to values which increase in the natural sequence and are expressed in terms of the coin of smallest value to be admitted to the apparatus. On the same half of the cylinder as that occupied by the studs and extending from the neutral line to a point a little beyond the diametrically-opposite generatrix is a segmental member 313a, and a complemental segment 312a is arranged on the opposite part of the cylinder, the two segments being arranged in different planes and in communication with one another and with the rings 312. In order to provide for rotation of the cylinder, ratchet wheels 331, Figs. 1, 3, are secured to the cylinder-shaft 311 upon which are also arranged pulleys 332. When a coin is introduced into a slot such as 43j, Fig. 3, it bridges contacts to energise the corresponding electromagnet 337j, whereby a member 336 is attracted to rotate a pulley 332, which rotation is transmitted to the of the cylinder comes beneath the arm and brushes 314 thereon engage studs 313 corresponding to the difference in value of the coins inserted and the goods selected, and circuits ratchet wheel 331 and therefore to the cylinder by means of a pawl 331a, and is limited according to the value of the coin introduced by means of an appropriately-disposed stop 340. The coin is released when the member 336 closes contacts 355, 356 to energise an electromagnet 39. Operation. Normally, the cylinder is arranged so that the neutral line is disposed beneath the arm 315. When the knob 317 is rotated according to the goods selected the arm is moved to a corresponding position above that portion of the cylinder upon which studs are provided, and at the same time a stud 349 is brought into contact with one of a series of studs 348 each connected to an electromagnet of the appropriate goods-delivery device. Payment-coins are now inserted one after another, or a single coin is inserted, and the cylinder is rotated accordingly. When sufficient coins have been introduced to cause the neutral line to reach the arm, a brush 314a carried thereby is enabled to contact with the segment 313a and a brush 321 with the segment 312a, a circuit being thus closed to the goodsejecting electromagnet. Further, if sufficient money has been introduced to cause the neutral line to pass beyond the arm, the studded portion are then closed to energise the appropriate change-ejecting electromagnets of the series 13a-13h, the change-ejecting device being of the form described in Specification 391,172. Further, the stud 349 is in communication with a metallic ring 350 secured to the arm and brushed by a member 351 in circuit with an electromagnet 48, whereby the latter is energised to attract an armature 49 and close a circuit for a motor 25. This causes rotation of a disc 27 which performs similar functions to those of the disc 7 in Specification 391,172, and also rotation of a cam 324 whereby the position of a member 323 is moved to break the circuits to the change- and goods-delivery electromagnets and to close the circuit of an electromagnet 329. By this means, the parts 341, 343 of a clutch, which are normally in engagement under the influence of a spring 342 are separated, thereby permitting the return of the cylinder to its normal position under the influence of a spring or of a counterweight 344, stop-members 345, 346 being provided. When the device is used for change-giving only, the arm 315 is not moved from its neutral position and the stud 349 is not in contact with any stud of the series 348 so that the goods-ejecting electromagnets are not energised.
