403,148. Bolting. AUBIN, E., Elmstead, West Wittering, near Chichester, Sussex, and CLAREMONT, A. W., Vernon House, Sicilian Avenue, Bloomsbury Square, London. (Representatives of Royce, Sir F. H.) July 7, 1932, No. 19208. [Class 89 (i).] A method of securing together metal parts of engines which are subject to stress consists in dividing one of the parts at the end nearest to the other, locating the parts with reference to each other by locating means on either side of the division, and connecting the parts by means which act in or about the plane of the division to urge the parts together so that the divided portions of the divided part are urged apart so as to bear laterally on the locating moans. Fig. 1 shows the application of the method to the attachment of a balance weight b to a crank web a. The balance weight has a saw cut b<1> and two holes b<2>, b<3> at right angles. The hole b<3> provides for a narrow neck c<3> on the balance weight. Dowel pins d engage registering holes in the two parts a, b. The balance weight b is cut away at e so that the crank web reacts on it at points comparatively far removed and the spreading effect on tightening the nut c<1> is increased.
