Abstract

A closure for bottles, &c. comprises a cap with retaining means thereon and a sealing gasket containing rubber-like material, sufficient lubricating material to provide a non-adhesive anti-frictional sealing surface, and a blooming agent. The rubber-like material consists of compositions containing natural or synthetic rubber or rubber substitutes; a filler, such as clay, a vulcanising agent, preferably sulphur, and an organic accelerator such as tetra-methyl-thiuram-disulphide, being used. The lubricating material may be ceresin wax. A "blooming agent" is defined as a substance which ensures that the lubricating material shall exude to the surface of the gasket so that the contact of the gasket with the mouth of the bottle &c. shall be permanently lubricated; stearic acid and metallic stearates are given as examples. A pigment such as iron oxide may be included in the gasket composition.
