Abstract
402,376. Wireless receiving systems. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE SAXBY SIGNAL CO., Ltd., 82, York Road, King's Cross, London.-(Assignees of Place, W. P. ; 442, Rebecca Avenue, Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Aug. 24, 1933, No. 23535. Convention date, Aug. 25, 1932. [Class 40 (v).] A wireless receiver comprising a dry-surface contact rectifier fed from a preceding high or intermediate frequency amplifying valve, is converted into an amplifier for gramophones in which the high or intermediate frequency amplifier serves as an audio frequency amplifier. The dry-surface contact rectifier 3 is fed from a high frequency amplifier 1 and feeds an audio frequency amplifier 4. The inductance 10 passes audio-frequencies, the capacity 11 compensates for the capacity of the rectifier 3 and the resistance 12 dissipates direct current due to the rectified carrier wave. To convert the circuit to a gramophone amplifier, switch 24 is opened and switch arm 23 is moved from contact A to contact B. As a result resistance 12 is placed across earth and the plate circuit of valve 1 since the inductance 10 has small resistance to audio-frequencies and inductor 16 has a low direct-current resistance and a high alternating-current reactance. An autotransformer may be included in lead 25 (Fig. 2 not shown). The invention is also applicable to the intermediate frequency amplifier and second detector of a super-heterodyne receiver (Fig. 3 not shown).
