Abstract

402,269. Carpets ; pile fabrics. BLUMENTHAL & CO., Inc., S., 1, Park Avenue, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Emhardt, J. C.; New Haven, Connecticut, U.S.A.) Jan. 20, 1933, No. 1989. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1932. [Class 142 (iv).] Material for floor coverings &c. consists of fabric, preferably pile fabric 3, upon which a thin layer 4 of resilient cellular rubber is formed from an aqueous dispersion of rubber after the latter has 'been applied to the fabric. The dispersion may be natural or artificial latex, mixed with suitable modifying and vulcanizing ingredients, and including a small amount of added water ; it may also include a filler. The mixture is applied to the back of a pile fabric by means of a doctor blade, and the material passed into a chamber heated to a temperature above 212‹ F., e.g. between 220‹ and 300‹ F. The water in the dispersion is thus caused to boil and impart a cellular structure to the rubber, which is at the same time vulcanized and caused to adhere firmly to the fabric.
