Abstract
Aminoalkyl chlorides of the formula R.(CH2)n. Cl, in which R represents a dialkylamino or piperidyl residue and n is 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11, are prepared by treating the corresponding aminoalcohol with thionyl chloride at a low temperature, preferably below 0 DEG C. in a solvent such as chloroform. Examples are given of the preparation of lambda-diethylamino-n-undecyl chloride, c - diethylamino - n - heptyl chloride, k - dibutylamino - n - decyl chloride, k - N - piperidyl - n - decyl chloride and lambda - dibutylamino-n-undecyl chloride from the corresponding amino-alcohols. Reference is also made to the following products:--#q - diethylamino - n - octyl chloride, i-diethylamino-n-nonyl chloride, k-diethylamino-n-decyl chloride, k-dimethylamino-n-decyl chloride, k-diamylamino-n-decyl chloride and lambda - diheptylamino - n - undecyl chloride. Specification 359,180 is referred to. The aminoalcohols employed as starting materials are obtained by (i) interaction of the appropriate secondary amine and chloroalcohol, or (2) reduction with sodium and alcohol of the corresponding aminocarboxylic acid alkyl esters, which latter may be prepared by treating the halogen-substituted carboxylic acid alkyl esters with the requisite secondary amine. Thus, c -diethylamino-n-heptyl alcohol results from the interaction of c -chlor-n-heptyl alcohol with diethylamine, whilst lambda-diethylamino-n-undecyl alcohol is obtained by treating ethyl k-brom-n-undecoate with diethylamine and reducing the ethyl k-diethylamino-n-undecoate formed. The following aminoalcohols are also referred to:--#q - diethylamino - n - octyl, i - diethylamino - n - nonyl, k - diethylamino - n - decyl, k - dimethylamino-n-decyl, k-dibutylamino-n-decyl, k-N-piperidyl - n - decyl, k - diamylamino - n - decyl, lambda - dibutylamino - n - undecyl and lambda - diheptylamino-n-undecyl alcohols.
