Abstract
401,611. Welding. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G., 2500, Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Ragsdale, E. J. W.; Curren Terrace, Norristown, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) June 9, 1933, No. 16545. Convention date, June 11, 1932. [Class 83 (iv).] An electric resistance welding-machine comprising a switch device for determining the period of the welding current has control meant operable either manually or automatically at will to effect one actuation only of the switch for each welding operation. The timing switch is of the type described in Specification 397,157, and a visual indicator of the energy consumed in the weld is included in the machine and is described in Specification 388,770. A rod 17 causes the approach of the die 9 to the stationary die 10 through a lost motion device including a spring 21, the die being normally held upwardly by the resiliency of the leads to the upper electrode. The rod 17 also initiates the actuation of the timing switch which continues under the control of a spring as in Specification 397157. The rod is actuated by a clutch member 25 through a link 24, and may be clutched either to a member 29 secured to a shaft 26 oscillated from a pedal 28, or to a member 30 continuously oscillated from a motor through a crank and a link 38. In the latter arrangement a succession of welds is performed automatically the work being moved when the jaws open after each weld. A handle 31 controls the position of the member 25.
