Abstract

400,074. Road-traffic signalling systems. AKTIESELSKAPET ELEKTRISK BUREAU, 17, Middelthunsgate, Oslo, Norway. March 9, 1933, No. 7174. Convention date, March 11, 1932. [Class 118 (ii).] In an auto. matic trafficcontrolling system in which a continuously rotating drum co-operates with brushes to supply current to relays controlling the signal lamps, the brushes can be displaced relative to the contact surfaces and relative to each other to alter both the intervals during which the individual lamps are illuminated relative to each other and the transitional time-intervals. Referring to the Figure, in which the drum is shown developed, conducting segments 6 and 7 are connected to one terminal of the supply 4 through brush 8 and conductors 10 and 11. Brushes 12 and 13 are associated with relays 1 and 2 respectively, the sytem being such that green lamps are illuminated if the relative relay is energized and red lamps if the relay is back. The relays are energized when their respective brushes contact with the conducting segments 6 and 7. By means of the coupling nut 14 the brushes 12 and 13 can be adjusted in relation to each other, allowing the brushes to be both in contact with the insulating segment 5 for a longer or shorter period of time and so adjusting the transitional time-intervals when both relays are de-energized and all the red lamps are illuminated. The brushes can also be moved as a whole relative to the conducting segments, thus altering the relative time intervals during which the red and geeen lamps are lit ; for example if the brushes are moved to the left the relay 2 gives green light during an interval greater than that for green light through relay 1. The switch 3 enables the system to be operated by hand when desired.
