Abstract

374,099. Control system for lamps. LITE WATCHMAN CORPORATION, 52, Vanderbilt Avenue, New York, U.S.A. Feb. 28, 1931, No. 6351. Convention date, March 5, 1930. [Class 38 (iv).] Emergency lighting systems.-Upon failure of one of a pair of head-lamps in an electric lighting system for self-propelling vehicles, the lamps of another lighting system are automatically energized. The main lighting bulbs 3 and 4 and the supplemental lighting bulbs 5 and 6 of the head-lamps 1 and 2 respectively are supplied from the battery 7 and controlled by the switch 8 the arm 11 of which selectively causes the energization of the two systems. The current to the main lights 3 and 4 divides at a magnetic relay device and passes through equal but oppositely wound windings 17 and 19 respectively which balance and normally have no attraction for the armature 20. Failure of one of the main lamps destroys the balance of the windings and the armature 20 being attracted, establishes connection of the two contacts 22 and 23 which closes a circuit through wire 24 and the metal frame 21 to the supplemental lights 2 and 3, which are immediately energized.
