Abstract

399,704. Buttonhole-sewing machines. HUGHES, R. M., 72, Cannon Street, London. -(International Button Hole Sewing Machine Co. ; 502, Harrison Avenue, Boston, U.S.A.) Feb. 16, 1933, No. 4789. [Class 112.] The cutter for trimming off the stay cord and severing the thread consists of a blade placed between the throat plate and the work. In one form of the invention, Fig. 2, the cutters consist of the members 20, 15 with cutting edges 24, 17. The members are pivoted at 16 and are normally held epen by a spring 36. They are closed to cut the cord and thread by a cam 30 acting on their tails 29, 28. The cam 30 is actuated by the rotary turret, situated below the throat plate and containing the loopers. The blade 15 fits in a recess in the mat 14 on the buttonhole clamp plate 9 so that the thread is cut flush with the cloth surface. In the form shown in Fig. 11, the cutter consists of a single blade 42, pivoted on a stud 43, carried by the clamp plate 9 and flush with the mat 14. This blade has a cutting edge 44 co-operating with the front edge 45 of the cover plate 46. The blade is operated in this case by the turret operating means instead of by the turret.
