[Class 7 (iii).] In a carburetter in which fuel is fed through a hollow rotary shaft and atomized by centrifugal ejection through ducts in a disc mounted on the shaft, the shaft being rotated by a fan axially displaceable by air pressure for controlling a fuel supply valve, the shaft is slidably held in a bearing and is supported at one end on a cushion which normally maintains the fuel supply valve, supported by the shaft, in the closed position, the shaft being displaced by the air current in opposition to the cushion for opening the valve. Air entering by a controlled port 1 passes between the coils of a spring 4, disposed between a member 2 on a cover 6 and an observation glass 5, to fixed vanes 7 adapted to give it a whirling motion which throws out impurities towards the observation glass and directs the air on to the blades of a fan 8 mounted between discs on the end of a hollow shaft 9. The shaft 9 is rotatable in the cover 6 and is adapted to supply fuel to ducts in the fan when engine suction draws the fan and shaft downwards and allows a ball valve 10 at the top of the shaft to open, an adjustable resilient support 12 secured in the body of the carburetter opposing the downward motion. A conical screen 14 secured by a spring 15 assists in mixing the fuel and air. In a modification, the air port is uncontrolled and concentric valve rings, coaxial with the shaft, control the passage of combustible mixture.
