Abstract
398,832. Coin-freed apparatus. BUTLER, W. H., Lea Brass Works, Lea Road, Dronfield, near Sheffield. Feb. 22, 1932, No. 5276. [Class 27.] Testing coins; returning coins.- In coin-freed vending-machines mechanism for rejecting counterfeit coins of soft material comprises a flexible or resilient strip 2 secured at one end to a stationary hollow coin drop plate 3 and provided with a knife edge at its free end disposed laterally of the coin-receiving slot 4, and a slidable slot guard 6, Figs. 6 and 8, provided with an adjustable fulcrum 8 against which the strip 2 is displaceable to admit insertion of a hard coin 9, but is non-displaceable by a soft disc. The coins fall through the hollow drop plate 3 into an inclined channel set at an angle to the vertical and formed of a stationary member and a pivoted member, the stationary member being provided with a magnet from which counterfeit discs are removed by a leg on the pivoted member, so that they fall into a coinreturn shoot. The pivoted member has an opening in its wall to permit small coins to fall into the return shoot, and is also provided with a depending deflector to act as a guide to prevent rejected coins from becoming wedged in the return shoot. Coin-slot closing devices.-When the machine becomes empty, the guard 6 is adapted to be raised, so that its lower member 9a blocks the slot 4, by means of a double-armed lever connected by pull-rods to a pivoted trigger adapted to be tripped by a weighted member resting on top of the vendable articles. Coin action, multiple-coin.-A coin-receiving hopper has a tiltable coin support, from which the coins pass through a shoot to delivery mechanism comprising a pull-out drawer.
