Abstract

398,636. Insect traps. OPPERMAN, O. R., 3, Albemarle Street, Clerkenwell, London. Aug. 26, 1932, No. 23923. [Class 5 (i).] An insect trap comprises a jar 11 or similar receptacle in which the bait is placed and which is provided with a slightly truncated removable cover 4 of inverted conical shape forming a depending converging inlet, the cover 4 being formed with a series of smaller openings 1 in addition to the inlet opening 3 to allow the aroma of the bait to be readily perceivable and being provided with supporting means adapted to engage the rim 11a of the jar or the like. The cover is formed from a transparent or translucent flexible material, such as celluloid or cellulose acetate, and the edge of the inlet opening 3 is formed with integral flexible tongue-like extensions 7 which are adapted to be pressed outwards slightly as the insect enters the trap. The supporting means comprise wire supports 9 secured to the cover 4 by eyelets 10. In a modification, the cover 4 is pressed or moulded from a single disc of celluloid or the like and is provided with an integral flange adapted to clip over the edge of jar. The bait may be placed directly in the jar, or a spongy material saturated with the bait may be wired to the cover.
