Abstract

398,178. Linear-dimension gauges. MURRAY, G. L., 15, North Hill Court, Headingley, Leeds. Feb. 6, 1932, No. 3559. [Class 106 (ii).] Gauges are provided on one or both of their surfaces and/or ends with a number of recesses and/or protuberances arranged singly or in combination and marked with a single colour or a combination of colours for indicating the size or sizes of a gauge. Fig. 1 shows a stepped gauge for " inside " measurements. Recesses 9 .. 14 in the edges form a number of steps 15 .. 20 the distances across which is of gradually increasing size from the edge 2. On the flat surfaces are formed a number of recesses and/or projections 23 .. 30. These are permanently coloured with a single colour or combination of colours which corresponds to an exact dimension. The colours are shown shaded according to a convention set out in the Specification. The recesses 29, 30 are for identifying the gauge as a whole. A similarly marked stepped " outside " gauge of the calliper type is described. Fig. shows a plug gauge with circular " go " and " no go " ends 31, 32. The central portion 33 is reduced in size and formed with grooves 34, 35 which are coloured, the grooves 34 being black and representing the dimensions of the ends. For identifying the gauge the centre portion 33 is red and the grooves 35, blue, purple and yellow. The end faces may also have recesses 36, 37 which are coloured to correspond with a particular dimension. Further forms described comprise a series of plug gauges arranged radially to a central boss, a '' go " and " no go " calliper gauge, a series of " go " and " no go " gap gauges arranged radially in a disc, and a circular reference gauge.
