Abstract
393,843. Vehicle lamps. MADSEN, N. C., Videbaek, Denmark. Oct. 31, 1932, No. 30533. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv).] Mounting electric lamps in lanterns; mounting reflectors on lamp casings.- The light source in a vehicle lamp is connected to a pivotal support which is controlled by a pendulum or other balancing member so as to maintain the light beam in a normal position relative to the road when the vehicle is longitudinally tilted owing to heavy rear load. In the form shown, the sleeve d carrying the lamp holder m is pivoted at e between two plates c, and is connected to the pendulum k pivoted at j, by means of toothed sectors or the arms g, h. The arm h engages in a slot in the arm g. The lamp can be focused initially by the screw s which causes rotation about the axis e, and by sliding the holder m in the sleeve d, the screw f holding it in position. To steady the movement of the pendulum k, l, it may be enclosed in a casing u containing oil, as shown in Fig. 3, or held by a frictionally operating braking spring. A second pendulum v, pivoted at wand having an arm x which engages with a projection y on the shaft j when the vehicle is stopped, prevents any movement then. A third pendulum may be provided to prevent motion on acceleration of the vehicle, or the pendulum v may have a second arm x<1>. The reflector may be adapted to follow the movements of the light source.
