[Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii).] In a heating system for bakers' ovens, drying- kilns, &c. in which a gaseous heatcarrying medium is passed through a conduit 3 into which the combustion chamber 4 of a gas or oil fired burner 5 projects so that the heat carrying medium surrounds the combustion chamber and becomes mixed with the hot products of combustion, a convergent conical wall 1a surrounds the open end of the combustion chamber and the gases are forced under pressure through the annulus 6 so as to form a hollow cone and entrain the products of combustion. As shown the gases are circulated by a fan D through ducts A<1> in the oven chamber A, 'an exhaust opening E venting off a portion of the burned gases. The size of the annulus 6 is adjusted by moving the combustion chamber lengthwise by adjusting screws 8, or a sliding sleeve may be provided on the end of the combustion chamber. In a modification a tapered sleeve conforming to the shape of the wall 1a is slidable in the conduit 3 relatively to a fixed combustion chamber. The ducts A<1> may be omitted and the hot gases passed directly into the oven chamber. Instead of re-circulating the gases fresh air may be blown into the inlet 2 and the exhaust gases vented to a stack.
