Abstract

Rubber is incorporated with accelerators and antiagers by adding the ingredients of the latter as liquids or solids to the rubber and condensing them in situ. The rubber may be in aqueous dispersion, in solution or softened as by mastication and the ingredients may be emulsified or in solution. When latex is used the conditions are preferably chosen so that the whole mixture sets to a general coagulum without separation of aqueous and rubbery portions. The mixture may be heated to assist interaction of the ingredients. One ingredient may be added to one portion of rubber and the other ingredient to another portion and the two mixed, particularly when masticated rubber is being used. Such accelerators and antiagers include the reaction products of aldehydes as butaldehyde, crotonaldehyde, heptaldehyde, with aniline or other amines. Specification 358,089 is referred to. The Provisional Specification refers also to accelerators formed by the combination of an organic base such as diphenylguanidine with acetic acid, or mercaptobenzthiazole or a naphthol or by the combination of carbon disulphide with an organic amine such as piperidine or dimethylamine or aniline.
