Abstract

392,736. Fusible cut-outs. ROW, W. St. Julian Flats, Royston Street, Darling- hurst, near Sydney, Australia. May 10, 1932, No. 13412. [Class 38 (i).] In an electric indicating fuse of the kind in which the fuze wire is connected to a spring- influenced indicating button the button is provided with a stem having an enlarged head to engage the wire. As shown in sectional side view by Fig. 1, the usual detachable member 1 of the fuse has U-shaped spring contacts 2 which are received by fixed contacts on a base member (not shown). A central portion 5 is provided with an oblique hole 6 to receive the fuse wire 7 which is secured at its ends to nuts 4. The hole 6 is fitted with a tubular member 8 of asbestos which acts as a damper. The indicator consists of a button 9 housed slidably in a hole 10 and acted upon by a coil spring 11. A stem 13 having an enlarged head 15 is attached to the button 9, and in the normal position the head 15 is engaged over the fuse wire 7. When the fuse wire 7 blows, the stem 13 is released and the button 9 is forced outwardly by its spring 11. To facilitate resetting, a gap may be provided on one side of the head 15, the head being rotated for engagement with the wire 7 by a screw-driver inserted in a slot 16 on the front of the button 9. In a modified construction, the damper hole 6 is replaced by an inclined slot formed in the member 1 and a member adapted for fitment in the slot has a curved groove on its lower edge to co-operate with the asbestos strip to form a damping channel. Fig. 11 shows the application of the invention to an ironclad cartridge fuse consisting of a tube 30 of insulating material having metallic caps 31 to engage the contacts 29 of the fuse body. One of the caps 31 is formed with a lateral extension 32 to support a tubular member 33 forming a housing for the indicator button 9. A cartridge fuse of heavy type is shown in Fig. 12, wherein an aluminium fuse strip 36, formed with central perforations 37, has two lugs 38 between which a fuse wire 7 is applied for association with the indicator button 9.
