[Class 3 (i).] Lamps, mirrors, &c. 26 are mounted on an expansible lattice framework 10, 11 so as to form a legend &c. when the framework is lengthened and a substantially solid bank of lights &c. when closed. The framework 10, 11 is supported near one end from a bracket 31 fixed on a horizontal channel-shaped casing 17, and by a spring 14, and is suspended at intermediate points by insulating arms 18 provided with rollers running in the casing 17. The outer end of the framework hangs by insulating arms 15b from a bogie 15a which reciprocates from end to end of the casing 17. The driving means for the bogie 15a comprises a motor 20 geared to an endless continuously travelling chain 22 carrying a pin permanently pivoting in a flanged wheel 25 slidable in an elongated collar 16 fixed to the bogie 15a. The collar 16 allows a dwell to occur in the movement of the framework when expanded and when compressed. The bars 10, 11 comprising the framework may be of metal and act as conductors for the lamp current, being jointed together through insulating bushes and each set respectively provided with a bus-bar. The lamps 26 may project horizontally or be mounted vertically on L-shaped brackets. The framework may be fixedly supported at a point other than its end, and the expanding and contracting mechanism is then duplicated. The expanding and contracting motion may take place in any direction, and a switch may be provided to illuminate the lamps only at a certain point in their travel. The lamps or mirrors may be mounted on flexible members, such as coil springs. The bars 10 may be built up of laminations of conducting and insulating materials, the conductors being each connected to one of a group of lamps mounted on a common member, and the lamps being lit successively at each reciprocation of the framework. The lattice support may be in the form of upper and lower lazy-tong members connected at their ends to one another and having the lamps &c. suspended in the area confined by said framework.
