Abstract

391,637. Automatic exchange systems. RUMPF, F., Schwanengasse, Berne, Switzerland. June 20, 1932, No. 17474. Convention date, June 20, 1931. Addition to 391.629. [Class 40 (iv).] A perforated card prepared in the manner described in the parent Specification and bearing a record of the number of the calling subscriber and of the exchange and number of the wanted subscriber is employed to effect the automatic establishment of connections by impulsing and/or to transmit a phonetic record of the wanted number to the distant exchange. The device for interpreting the record on the card LK comprises a set of spring-pressed balls K, which, when a perforation is encountered, make electrical contact with the roller KW. Fig. 4 shows the method of setting up the connection to the calling subscriber, a, b being the junction to the distant exchange and a<1>, b<1> the trunk to the local switches. The terminals of the switch JW areconnected to the balls K, the contact with the roller KW being represented by LKK. Relays U, T energize when the start key WT is pressed, completing the loop over the trunk a<1>, b<1> and disconnecting the junction a, b. A pendulum interrupter STP is connected to impulse relay J and the magnet DM of the switch JW so that impulses are sent out until a perforation is encountered, whereupon relay P energizes and connects up relay I, which concludes the impulse train by looping the trunk a<1>, b<1> independently of relay J. The switch JW steps on to normal, where the feed magnet FM advances the card one step and relays P, I fall back. The succeeding impulse trains are' sent similarly. The connecton to the wanted subscriber may be set up in .a similar manner, but preferably by means of A.C. impulses or code impulses, or alternatively the interpreting device may effect the transmission of signals over the junction a, b for announcing the wanted number phonetically in the manner described in Specification 386,215.
