[Class 74 (ii).] Pattern yarns are supplied to the wrap yarn guides of a circular machine by a number of spring-controlled take-ups 856, Fig. 1, each of which is mechanically operated to hold the same amount of yarn prior to the knitting operation, irrespective of the number of needles wrapped by that particular yarn during the operation. The yarns are withdrawn from the bobbins by the engagement of tail portions on the take-ups with a cam 760 and are supplied to the yarn guides under a tension determined by springs 857. If desired some of the take-ups may be provided with smaller tails, such as that shown at 758<1>, in order to draw a lesser amount of yarn for those patterns which wrap only a few needles. A plurality of pattern yarns may be associated in one stripe by mounting a take-up in each of the slots 21 provided in the supporting brackets 20.
