Abstract
390,254. Coin-freed apparatus. SHEFFIELD STEEL PRODUCTS, Ltd., 40, Holborn Viaduct, London, and WALKER, W. R., 32, Ebury Street, Attercliffe, Sheffield. Dec. 4, 1931, No. 33712. [Class 27.] Testing coins.-A device for preventing a coin with a central hole from passing into a coin-freed machine comprises a resilient wire or strip f, Figs. 1 and 2, secured to the movable wall b of the coin shoot a by a bracket e and extending over the length of a longitudinal slot g in the wall. The free end of the wire is bent at h to penetrate into the shoot through the slot g, and the wire is twisted at an intermediate point to form a stem i the end j of which is bent to project over the top of the side b into the shoot. The portion i, j forms a ramp which is struck by the coin in its passage so that the end h, if the coin has sufficient weight and momentum, is pressed out of the coin path. The distance between the parts h, i is equal to the radius of the coin and, when the trailing edge of the coin leaves the ramp, the part h presses on its central portion so that, if it has a central hole, it is prevented from passing down the shoot to release the coinfreed mechanism. In a modified form, Fig. 4, the ramp is formed by an incline in the wire ending in an abrupt shoulder, and penetrates the shoot through the slot g. A movable arm l adjusts the stiffness of the wire element f.
