Abstract

A composition for use in the electrical industry, particularly for stiffening coils not supported by a carrier, consists of 50-80 parts of a fireproof and preferably non-conductive filler, and 50-20 parts of a binder which does not substantially reduce the fireproof qualities, and which is hardened by baking at a temperature of 100-500 DEG C. Suitable fillers are clay, alumina, kieselguhr, chamotte, magnesite, chalk, heavy spar, talc, zirconium oxide, titanic acid, zinc oxide, while the binder may be kaolin, or enamel or glass melts, or heat resisting asphalt lacquers. The composition may be applied as a paste, or may be made into bands which are wound on to the article, and baked.
