Abstract

387,721. Compound glass. WADE, M. C., 6, Broadlands Road, Highgate, and SHARPE, W. S., 12, New Court, Carey Street, both in London, (Representatives of Wade, H.)-(Bonniksen, C. W.; Wald Hotel, Post Unterach, Mondsee, Austria.) Aug. 13, 1931, No. 22922. [Class 140.] Compound glass is made by coating glass sheets with a solution of a cellulose ester such as celluloid, removing the solvent by immersing the coated glass in a liquid, for example castor oil, which absorbs the solvent, for example as described in Specification 388,050, [Group III], removing the absorbing liquid, assembling the dried sheets in a liquid, preferably a high boiling point liquid, which is a slow-acting solvent or plasticizer for the cellulose ester such as benzyl alcohol or diethyl phthalate and adhering while immersed by slight mechanical pressure, for example 1 ounce per square inch. After removing the assembly from the bath and draining it may be matured at an elevated temperature, for example 95‹ C. for an hour. Before introducing the coated glass sheets into the assembling bath they may be warmed and the bath heated to 50-70‹ C.
