[Classes 13 and 40 (ii).] Sound-reproducing apparatus comprises a tubular arm 5 of telescopic and resilient form adapted to be held in a fixed support at one end and to carry the mounting 4 of the soundreproducer, such as a sound-box or electric pick-up, at its opposite free end which is movable longitudinally of the arm so that during playing of a record the resilient nature of the arm ensures radial tracking of the record by the sound-reproducer. The arm 5 is in the form of a coil spring which is connected at its smaller end with the arm 4 carrying the soundreproducer and at its larger end with a socket 8 mounted in a support 10. The socket 8 also houses the end of a bent outlet tube 6. The arm 4 carries a sleeve 15, Fig. 1, which is adapted to slide on a guide-rod 12 arranged along the longitudinal axis of the tube 5 and supported at its ends by members 13, 14. In a modification the tube 4 carries a collar 19, Fig. 5, which is slidable on two parallel rods 21, 22. The tube 5 is provided with an internal blade 27 to prevent bending of the tube in the extended position. The bent tube 6 is adapted to be rotated about the longitudinal axis of the tube 5, and in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3 is adapted to deliver to a conduit 31 which is arranged beneath the motor board 3 and is provided with an outlet either in the motor board or in one of the side walls. This outlet is closed by a disc 33 having apertures 32 which may be closed by a rotatable apertured disc 35. If desired the bent tube 6 may be moved into an upturned position as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, and its end may be fitted either with a detachable telescopic amplifying horn 37, which may be constructed similarly to the tube 5, or with a horn 38 for co-operating with reflectors 39 arranged in the lid of the cabinet. Alternatively, a microphone may be arranged in, or opposite to, the bent tube 6 so as to enable reproduced sound to be transmitted to a distance. A cushion may be provided for supporting the sound-reproducer when not in use. The sound-box may be adapted to traverse the record either towards or away from the centre. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the application of the invention to sound-recording apparatus. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
