[Class 9 (i).] The closure of a sport. ing cartridge 1, Figs. 2 and 5, is effected by forming slits 4 in the case and by turning in wards the tongues thus formed so that each overlaps one and engages beneath the other of the two adjacent tongues. The tongues are of such length that, when turned down, their tips A pass through the axis of the cartridge and in this position the tongues are firmly held by forming a flange 3 at the mouth rim of the case. This flange is preferably of semicircular or U-shape in cross section. The slits may be formed either obliquely, curvilinearly, or, as shown, parallel to the axis of the cartridge.
