Abstract
386,407. Scavengers' vehicles ; dustbins. EAGLE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. and PALMER, R. G., Eagle Works, Warwick. Dec. 5, 1931, No. 33762. [Class 108 (i).] In means for collecting refuse of the kind in which a bin having a slidable lid is adapted to be hooked to a vehicle and inverted to register with the vehicle opening normally closed by a cover, the lid and cover being thereby engaged for simultaneous withdrawal, the lid has an overhanging portion provided with an elongated slot. A dust-bin 5 having loops 5c for engaging hooks 7a on the vehicle is provided with a sliding lid 6 having trunnions 6b which, when the lid is fully opened, engage bearings 5b whereby the lid may be operated by a hinging motion. The lid is provided in an overhanging portion with a slot 6a to serve as a handle and also to engage a projection 8b on the sliding cover 8 of the vehicle opening when the dust-bin is tipped over to register with the vehicle opening for discharge of the refuse into the vehicle. The cover and lid are withdrawn to allow the bin to discharge its contents by manual operation through a lever 10, link 9 and telescopic spring rods 11, 12 provided with an operating handle 11a.
