Abstract

385,853. Band-conveyer drying- apparatus. MARSHALL, J. H. and MARSHALL SONS & CO., Ltd., Britannia Ironworks, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. May 31, 1932, No. 15422. [Class 34 (ii).] In apparatus in which tea or other produce to be dried is carried on travelling perforated or reticulated trays arranged in tiers within a drying chamber into which air from a heater is delivered by a fan, manually operable controls, (1) for regulating the amount of produce fed to the machine, (2) for regulating the amount of hot air delivered to the drying chamber, with or without a control, (3) for regulating the amount of heating medium supplied to the heater, are provided, control (1) being coupled to one or both of the other controls so as to be actuated by a single control. The heating medium may be an electric current, or solid fuel such as coal which may be fed by a mechanical stoker, or gas, or oil. The apparatus shown has an air heater 1 provided with a burner 2 for liquid fuel having a valve 3. The air is drawn from the heater by a fan 5, and supplied through a passage 6 to the bottom of the drying chamber 7, louvres 8 being located in the passage. The amount of tea carried by the uppermost tray is regulated by a wiper 12 rotating in bearings 12a which can be moved towards or away from the portion 10a of the travelling trays by a hand-lever 13. The valve 3, louvres 8, and lever 13 are linked as shown, so that the three controls are operated together. The links connecting controls 3, 8 to the lever may be disconnected, adjusted to suit the material under treatment, and then re-connected to the lever.
