Abstract
385,591. Discharge lamps; valve circuits. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc., 195, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Gray, F. ; 243, West 101st Street, New York, U.S.A.) March 24, 1931, No. 9035. Convention date, April 8, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v).] In systems for converting electric oscillations into light variations, applicable to television and sound recording, the glow-discharge lamp producing the light variations has a filling of inert gas with a small addition of active gas. The filling may be neon with 1-10 per cent of hydrogen, less than 5 per cent and preferably 1-2 per cent being specified. As compared.with lamps filled with pure rare gas, time-lag is reduced, the resistance of the lamp is more constant, its reactance more nearly proportional to the frequency of the currents and its impedance lower, also the phase shift between current and voltage due to the lamp is proportional to the frequency in the working range, say 10,000-20,000 cycles per second. The lamp is used in the anode circuit of an amplifying valve, the circuit having a constant impedance high compared with that of the lamp. Details of the reactance &c. of the lamp in a television receiver for modulated carrier waves are given.
