385,283. Thermal switches. ROZUMEK, E., 1, Am Fenn, Steglitz, Berlin. March 17, 1931, No. 8231. Convention date, March 18, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 38 (v).] A thermal switch of the hot wire type comprises a current supply bar 1 which carries a fixed contact 3 and is connected to and insulated from a second current supply bar 2 having a pivot 5 for a lever 6 carrying a contact 4. The lower end of the bar 2 carries a stirrup 9 to which is attached the lower end of a wire expansion winding 8, the upper end of which is attached to two straps 10. The lower ends of the straps 10 carry the lower end of a second winding, the upper end of which is attached by a pin to a stirrup 11 having a screw 12 which engages the contact-lever 6. When the windings expand on heating, their expansions are added and the screw 12 is raised to allow the switch to close under the action of a spring 7. A coiled compression spring surrounds the screw 12 and serves to keep the windings taut after the switch is closed. The screw 12 has a cylindrical end sliding in a hole in the lever 6 to prevent disengagement due to further heating after the switch is closed. In a modification, the two windings are mounted separately on each side of the current supply bars. The switch is mounted in an evacuated container and a flat condenser may be mounted between the current supply bars.
