Abstract

385,046. Door fastenings. TIBBLES, H. J., Brodsworth, Blenheim Crescent, Leigh-on-Sea, and RELY-A-BELL BURGLAR & FIRE ALARM CO., Ltd., 49A, Wilson Street, Finsbury Square, London. Oct. 2, 1931, No. 27402. [Class 44.] In a fastening of the kind employing a locking bar engaging a staple and secured by a padlock, the staple is rotatable and controls bolt fastenings. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2. the rotatable staple 1 is carried by a spindle 2 having a pinion 5 meshing with racks 6, 7 on bolts 8, 9, the arrangement being such that the bolts are shot by rotating the staple into registration with a slot in the locking bar 10. The staple may be locked against rotation by a bolt 20 engaging pinion 5 and controlled by a revolving barrel lock 15. As shown, a lug 16 rotating with the barrel co-operates with a cam aperture 17 in a slidable plate 18 which carries the bolt 20 and is urged to locking position by a spring 21. The locking bar shown is in two parts hinged together at 25, one part engaging the staple and secured by padlock, the other having pin and keyhole slot connection 26 with the door, and engaging a socket 11, the locking bar being placed to cover the lock 15. A form is described in which the staple registers with the slot in the locking bar when the bolts are retracted, the bar being first engaged with the staple, which is then rotated to shoot the bolts and prevent withdrawal from the slot. In this case the locking bar is arranged not to cover lock 15. In conjunction with the above arrangements the locking bar may be rotatably mounted and adapted to operate bolts, this arrangement being particularly suitable for double doors, the locking bar controlling the bolts on one door and the staple controlling the bolts on the other. Arrangement may be made for operation of the bolts otherwise than by the staple when desired. According to the Provisional Specification the bolts may be operated by follower arms on the staple spindle and the bolts locked by lever tumblers of ordinary type.
