Abstract
384,634. Changing signs. FAU, A., 18, Rue de Buzenval, Boulogne-sur-Seine, France. March 2, 1931, No. 6419. Convention date, May 28, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 3 (i).] Inscriptions, news items, advertisements, signs, designs, &c. are made to appear and disappear by change of temperature. Preparations containing salts having the property of changing colour with change of temperature are employed, an example consisting of a mixture of 75 parts of cicoid dissolved in acetone, 10 parts of amyl phthalate, 15 parts of copal, and 100 parts of double iodide of mercury and silver. A paint thus formed will be yellow at ordinary temperatures, orange at 55-65‹ C., and brown at higher temperatures. The paint 2 may be applied to the surface of, or put in grooves in, an opaque base 1 and be covered with varnish, or may lie in the interior of a translucent base. The base, or the varnish, is so coloured as to conceal the presence of the paint at certain temperatures. The temperature may be changed by electric resistances, lamps, cooling gases or liquids, &c.
