Abstract

382,907. Organs. COMPTON, J. H., Chase Road, Willesden, London. May 27, 1932, No. 15147. [Class 88 (ii).] Relates to organs of the kinds wherein a single flue-pipe yields two or more notes, or one note in two or more degrees of loudness. To equalize the quality and the strength or the pitch, the area of the mouth of the pipe is varied automatically in accordance with the wind pressure applied. In Fig. 1 a motor G, spring-loaded at H and connected by a tube U to the throat C, controls a slide J and a pivoted beard L. The requisite wind pressures applied to the throat C through the valves B, F, O, when sounding the different notes produced by the pipe with and without the pallets P, Q in operation, control the position of the slide J and equalize the quality and strength. When the pipe is adapted to sound the same note but with different strengths by changing the valves B, F, O operated, the slide J moves to maintain the quality, and the pitch is corrected by the beard L. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, wherein also a beard L is provided if the pipe is to sound the same note in different strengths, normal pressure is applied to the throat C through valve W, increased pressures being obtained through additional valves W<1>, W2 with restricted openings Y<1>, Y<2>, these valves operating motors G<1>, G<2> which by means of stops V<1>, V<2> independently actuate the slide J to different predetermined extents.
