Abstract

382,625. Clinometers. PIONEER INSTRUMENT CO., Inc., 754, Lexington Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A. July 20, 1931, No. 20718. Convention date, July 21, 1930. [Class 97 (ii).] For indicating the flying attitude of aircraft, a pendulum carrying an indicating member is mounted for movement about transverse and longitudinal axes and adapted to turn in azimuth in response to changes in direction. In the form shown a casing 7, having a pair of slots 8 adapted to be projected on to the ground glass dial 1 by the lamp 5 and reflector 6, is carried by a pendulum 10, 11 pivoting about a transverse axis 12 in a member 13 which in turn pivots about a longitudinal axis 14 in a shaft 16 mounted in vertical bearings 17. The shaft 16 is adapted to be turned in azimuth by gearing 21 connected to a gyroscopic turn indicator 20 or controlled by the output of an earth inductor compass or telecompass. A cylindrical lens 25 may be provided to reverse the motion of the image about the longitudinal axis. Dashpots 26 may be provided for damping the motion of the pendulum about the axes 12, 14.
