Abstract
382,513. Casting and moulding plant. CROAD, A. K., 70, Chancery Lane, London.-(Sand Spun Patents Corporation ; 200, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) March 1, 1932, No. 6206. [Class 83 (i).] Moulding - machines; flasks. - A ramming station for centrifugal casting plant has a ramming stool 10, with flask centring and supporting means 15, a supporting stool 48 to receive the stripped flasks from the casting- machine and a blacking stool 49. The flasks are transferred from the shake-out station to the stool 48 and from the stool 49 to the casting- machine (not shown) by the usual overhead crane. A flask 17 on the stool 48 is transferred by a jib crane 59 to the plate 15 which can be rotated by a motor 19 and has shoes 16, Fig. 2, to centre the flask, and a socket pattern 13. This is shaped to receive a pattern 23 which can be raised and lowered by mechanism 27, 28, Fig. 1, attachable at 26, Fig. 2. An annular hopper 32 is placed in position by a carriage 64 of a jib crane 62 and sand is supplied by conveyers 47, 45, Fig. 3, a hopper 40 with rotating bottom 42 and shoot 41 while pneumatic rammers 36 on cables attached to counter-weights 39 are operated. The hopper 32 has rollers to engage the flask 17 and its cone 33, Fig. 2, engages and centres the upper end of the pattern 23. This pattern is then raised by admitting pressure fluid to a space between a diaphragm 75 and a piston 74 having a rod 76 to engage the pattern 13. The flask is meanwhile held down by wedges 66, Fig. 1, moved by fluid pressure cylinders 71 to engage an annulus 67 thereon. The pattern 23 is then withdrawn by mechanism 27 and the flask transferred by a carriage 63 of the crane 62 to the stool 49 where blacking &c. is applied.
