Abstract

382,212. Preventing incrustation. STILL, C., Recklinghausen, Westphalia, Germany. April 15, 1932, No. 10862. [Class 123 (i).] A small quantity of water or liquor containing phenol is added to water sprayed on to openair cooling devices, such as cooling pipes for wash oil from benzol stills and cooling towers, to remove and prevent the growth of vegetable organisms on the sprayed surfaces. The waste water used in cooling and washing distillation gases in apparatus for the dry distillation of coal, which is stated to contain about 1-3 grams of phenol per litre, may be added in small quantities to the spraying water.
