Abstract

382,017. Resilient mountings. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd., Park Side, Coventry, and FAULKNER, H., Arclid, Fieldgate, Lane, Kenilworth, Warwickshire. Aug. 27, 1931, No. 24104. [Class 108 (iii).] A flexible mounting for an engine or gear-box includes an annular rubber member 12 having its inner and outer peripheries clamped respectively between the two parts to be carried by the unit and the support, these inner and outer zones being separated by an intermediate zone which is subjected to shear stress by the weight of the unit. The outer periphery of the rubber member 12 is clamped between a shoulder 4 on a tubular member 3 and a ring nut 6 screwed into the tubular member which is carried by the frame of the vehicle. The inner periphery of the member 12 is clamped between a shoulder on the centre tube frame 10 and a nut 11 and washer 13, the tube 10 being connected by a central bolt 9 to a bracket 7 projecting from the crank case of the engine. The outermost part of the central tube 10 and the inner part of the tube 3 are clear of one another, the rubber in the 'neighbourhood of this clearance region being subjected to shear.
